Brunei Darussalam and the People's Republic of China aim to further strengthen cooperation in the field of legislation, promote bilateral relations and exchange views on good governance. The matter was discussed during an online bilateral meeting between Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Lela Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdul Rahman bin Dato Setia Haji Mohamed Taib, Speaker of the Legislative Council and His Excellency Li Zhanshu, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, People's Republic of China yesterday morning.
The meeting also touched on the 42nd General Assembly of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly, AIPA that was held from the 23rd to 25th of August 2021 hosted by Brunei Darussalam via online. Yang Berhormat Pehin expressed appreciation for the N-P-C, People's Republic of China for joining as an observer and their cooperation in making the 42nd General Assembly of AIPA a success.
Other matters underlined include the second wave of the COVID-19 outbreak in the country. To provide support and assistance towards the country, the People's Republic of China contributed vaccines and the establishment of an additional virology lab. Yang Berhormat Pehin, on behalf of the Government and the people of Brunei Darussalam, conveyed gratitude to the Government of the People's Republic of China for the provided assistance and contributions. Both countries believe that it is of utmost importance for all nations to cooperate in curbing COVID-19 and prepare to face a new post-pandemic era. The meeting was also attended by Yang Dimuliakan Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Jaya Dato Paduka Awang Haji Judin bin Haji Asar, Secretary to the Cabinet Ministers' Council and Clerk to the Legislative Council.
