13.07.21 Sharing session prepares youth for future

Four Legislative Council (LegCo) members shared their personal stories and experiences with 112 Rimba Secondary School students during the ‘Roadtrip: Empowering youth for the future’, a series of engagement sessions focussing on skills, entrepreneurship, youth empowerment, community and volunteerism yesterday.

They were: Yang Berhormat Siti Rozaimeriyanty binti Dato Seri Laila Jasa Haji Abdul Rahman, Yang Berhormat Nik Hafimi binti Abdul Haadii, Yang Berhormat Khairunnisa binti Haji Ash’ari, and Yang Berhormat Iswandy bin Ahmad.

Yang Berhormat Siti Rozaimeriyanty highlighted on the importance of skills development to prepare for the future.

She said, “Future skills are essential. It is important to harness soft skills especially on self-direct learning which translates to active learning. Ability to learn throughout life is essential. Even myself, I am still learning. Learning is never ending journey.”

She also touched on critical thinking which is crucial in generating solution while highlighting the significance of social media as a popular form of communication today.

Meanwhile, Yang Berhormat Hafimi shared the importance of establishment of Young Entrepreneurs Association Brunei (YEAB), and her experience in representing the country on the global stage as well as her journey as an entrepreneur.

Yang Berhormat Khairunnisa meanwhile, shared her experience as the co-founder of Green Brunei and hoped that students aspire to make a difference in the society.

Yang Berhormat Iswandy spoke on the importance of community and volunteerism while underscoring the importance of education. He urged students to take up part-time jobs to gain experience and prepare for the work environment in the future.

The Principal and teachers of Rimba Secondary School also attended.

The series is part of the LegCo members’ effort towards achieving Brunei Vision 2035 goal towards ‘Educated, Highly Skilled and Accomplished People’.

It is also in line with the Ministry of Education’s mission to deliver holistic education to achieve the fullest potential for all. It is hoped that through the session, it can activate the students’ innermost motivators and to grab the present and future opportunities in developing all their potentials to be part of a future workforce that is productive to fulfil the nation’s manpower needs in the coming years.

The first session of the engagement series was held at Lambak Kiri Secondary School. Similar session will be held at public and private secondary schools and colleges in all four districts.
